It is an initiative of the municipalities of Sestola, Fanano, Montecreto and Riolunato with the collaboration of the Province of Modena, the Cultural Coop. E' Scamadul of Sestola, the Voluntary Ecological Watchers of the Province of Modena and the Group of the Alpine Guides of Cimone, that is to all ressidents and in particular to organized groups and schools. It offers historic - environmental didactic advice of the territory through texts, monographs, audiovisuals, exhibitions, guided visits and naturalistic excursions. The "Sportello Verde" supplies and produces documentation about the environmental research. The proposed itineraries are: - Orienteering: they are organized for schools and groups, they propose courses, lessons and exercises useful to orientate our self with a map and a compass. - Walks: it is possible to effect from every town and from every hamlet short walks with a guide to discover ancient roads, ancient crafts, rural settlements and the simple environment of the countryside. - Apennine crests: for the most experienced ones it is possible to pass through all the Modenese and Bolognese Apennine crests, in particular the zone of Parco Regionale dell'Alto Appennino Modenese" (Regional Park of the Higher Modenese Apennine) and, on request, the Apuan Alps. - Winter excursions: guided excursions through the Higher Apennine crests with axe and crampons and ski-extreme equipment. - Osservatorio Meteorologico del Monte Cimone (Meteorological Observatory of Monte Cimone): the "Osservatorio del Monte Cimone" is situated at the top of the homonymous mountain at 2165 m of altitude, on the spur of the apenninic range that represents the boundary between two climate regions, Continental Europe to the north and the Mediterranean area to the south, 50 km away from Mar Tirreno and 60 km away from the Po Valley, it lodges a first class weather station, that since 1946 collects facts about this wide geographical area. Moreover the "Servizio Meteorologico dell'Areonautica Militare" participate in the international plan BapMon of the World Meteorological Organization, the most representative site in Italy and one of the five in the world, about the measures of atmospherical pollution of carbon dioxide, ozone, etc. - Giardini Esperia (Esperia Garden): managed by Modena C.A.I., visit from May to September with qualified staff the "Giardino Botanico Alpino Esperia" (Esperia Alpine Botanical Garden) to know the spontaneous apenninic flora and the alpine introduced one. It is situated by Passo del Lupo at 1500 m of altitude, it is classified among the gardens that belong to the superior mountain horizon and it is predisposed also for the visits of disabled. In addition to the flowerbeds of the botanical garden it is possible to visit in the park the beechwood and the humid zones. - Regional Forest Nursery: guided visit to the regional forest nursery of "La Romania", nearby the locality of Gli Ortali in Roncoscaglia, to study the seed-beds and the flower-beds with the various arboreal species and the different cultivation techniques. - Visit to historical emergences: to the discovery of ancient churches, oratories, bridges, country villages, Celtic huts, historical centers, castles, XVIth century palaces and of the museums situated in this territory. - Fondovalle Panaro: Leo and Scoltenna streams, water-mills, "I Ponti" and the Madonna del Ponte of Fanano, the numerous ancient villages and the hamlets in the valleys of the streams of Dardagna, Ospitale, Fellicarolo and Vesale, all belong to the territory of the bottom of the valley of Panaro, that is interesting for numerous research activities. - Botanical excursion: guided visit to the territory, from the oakwood and chestnut-wood in the bottom of the valley to beechwood of the mountain strip, to the meadows of bilberries and spikenards at 2165 m of altitude of Monte Cimone.
