Renno together with its parish church is one of the most fascinating enigmas of our local history. The transfer of the parish church from Pavullo to Renno represents a turning-point in the history of this village. Probably, it was an important economic centre, which collected the taxes for Frignano area. It was also a juridical centre, as the administration of the public territories and the presence of judges all over the area show. The village was probably located at Renno di Sopra, where traces of an old castle, dating back to the early Middle Ages, can still be found. The fall of this castle coincided with the growth of Montecuccolo's military and defensive power. One can visit the plebeian church of S. Giovanni Battista, which is now the parish church. Its restoration, dating back to 1872, altered deeply the exterior. Its portal, for example, was replaced and large windows were opened on the fascade and in the apsis. In spite of that, it is still one of the most artistic parish churches of the "modenese mountain". The villages of Piantacroce, Renno di Sopra, Renno di Sotto, l'Amola, C di Polo are also worth visiting.
