Castagneto derives its name from the chestnut woods, still surrounding its territory. In the highest part of the town traces of an old castle can be found. It probably constituted, with the tower located below, a single fortress, including the adjacent houses and the walls up to the church, located at its foot. In fact this part of the town is still called "castle". The church, dedicated to San Lorenzo, has been completely remodelled after having been destroyed during the second World War. Its origin is rather obscure, but it probably dates back to XIII century. Also Villa Bibione with its oratory dedicated to S. Andrea and its old village is worthing visiting.
