Piandelagotti, within the municipality of Frassinoro, has been an important tourist resort since the beginning of the twentieth century - the tradition of skiing dates back to the period before the First World War. Throughout all periods of the year, there are many opportunities for sporting activities in contact with nature: trekking, mountain biking, orienteering, horse riding along ancient Etruscan and Roman paths, medieval itineraries dating to the time of Matilde di Canossa and the pilgrims making their way to Rome. In winter, the “Boscoreale Cross-Country Centre” - which in the summer acts as a horse-riding centre - offers fans of cross-country skiing 40 kilometres of well-kept pistes, with the possibility of nighttime skiing thanks to artificial lighting. In June and September, the village transforms into a music workshop: the international violin course allows young musicians from all over the world to study the violin in depth with teachers of an international level. During the Festival of Spring, which takes place every year in May, the local restaurants prepare menus based on the tasty “prugnolo” mushroom. The typical local cuisine combines ancient flavours with recipes from the regions of Emilia and Tuscany. Already seat of the Italian Cross-Country Ski and Ski Jump Championships of 1968, the most important national cross-country championship was held here once again in 2004.
